ChairX: Zoom " ESG – the good, the bad and the delusional "w/Ray Nulty and Hans Christian Iversen 1/3/23 @ 1.55 PM GMT

Dr Ray Nulty- Ray is a partner with Centigo and has joint responsibility for its UK and Ireland businesses and leads its Financial Services, Innovation and Strategy work with a focus on ESG.

Title: ESG – the good, the bad and the delusional.

Content:

The majority of small and medium enterprise are aware of ESG and particularly the pressure to  reduce their carbon footprint.  Some of these organisation will have laudable environmental and social objectives. They may have made statements on their websites and to their bigger customers about eliminating carbon emissions by a certain date in the not too distant future. In reality, most of these businesses don’t understand what has to be done and are probably delusional if they believe they can achieve anything near carbon neutrality.

Within the last six months, momentum has started to build. Larger customers are beginning to ask difficult questions. Who is responsible for ESG? What accreditations do you have? Can you provide LCA for the products you sell? Do you have EPDs? Have you verified supplier emissions? Can we see your ESG plans? Have you done any benchmarking? The list is getting longer and longer by the day. Many firms can’t easily answer the questions, don’t know what to do and end up providing very suspect responses.

Ray will share his experiences in advising the boards of small and medium enterprises prepare for the challenges of ESG and particularly the climate emergency.

The discussion will revolve around case studies of the extraordinarily good, the extraordinarily bad and a few of the in between.

He will also discuss the risks, the opportunities and some of the geopolitical forces which are causing confusion and very effectively disrupting ESG preparations.
